The Shot Heard Round the World Kills CLASS ACT Gov Long Term Care
An exclusive written by LTC Tree Senior Blogger, Joe Houston.
Okay, all you owners of long term care policies, for which you have struggled and worked your entire lives to finance, rejoice that the state of Massachusetts is once again the site for the next American “Revolution.” With the election of Scott Brown to replace the deceased Ted Kennedy in the US Senate, the voters of Massachusetts have demonstrated that enough is enough. Not only will Scott Brown bring us a more rational, problem-solving voice in the Senate, his election is putting an end to the ill-advised, irrational health-care plan that is being proposed by Congress.
We all know how this monstrosity of a nation-wide, health-care overhaul would be a disaster for the health care industry in America, especially since it contained no provisions for tort reform or allowing citizens to purchase certain types of health care policies across state lines. The insanity of this bill is obvious to most Americans, yet a certain socialist element in Congress and elsewhere just don’t seem to get it! It’s as if they had just landed as aliens from the planet Mongo, viewed themselves as superior to the natives, and decided to impose their will—results be damned!
In addition to this superior attitude, they compound their arrogance by offering no constructive way to pay for the whole mess, other than to print more paper money, accelerating inflation, and reminding all us history buffs of what happened in post WWI Germany when it took a bushel of money to buy a loaf of bread, giving rise to their “great liberator,” Adolf Hitler. While we don’t think Americans would fall that low, another part of us knows that America is in many ways an authoritarian type society that possibly could fall under the spell of a slick, snake-oil salesman, if he presented a fantasy-based solution that promised to lead us all to the promise land. Did we mention Barack Obama?
From a long term care perspective, this proposed Congressional health plan pretended to offer good long term care insurance (Ted Kennedy’s baby called The CLASS ACT), but it is nothing but an underfunded, reduced benefits temptress, that looks good to the unexamining eye, but offers no real benefit to those who become disabled and truly need long term care services. It was just stuck in the 2000 page bill because the slippery politicians could collect premiums for 5 years to help offset the health insurance side; because there is a loop hole in the CLASS ACT long term care insurance program that the buyer of the government run policy cannot use it for the first five years.
So where do we go from here. We believe that the “Tea Party” movementshould continue to be supported by all Americans that realistically want a better America. We support some sort of health care revisions that will realistically address our current system’s deficiencies, but changes that serve American citizens only, get the approval of the health insurance industry, are backed by America’s health care professionals, and most of all can be funded without increasing the national debt! If it turns out that all these things are not possible, leave things as they are until such time these conditions can be met. Selah!
