OUR AGING NATION AND LONG TERM CARE

OUR AGING NATION AND LONG TERM CARE

Anyone watching the news on TV, surfing the Internet, reading newspaper articles and listening to radio talk shows will certainly have received the impression that the Obama administration and the US Congress have grabbed hold of a “hot potato” in an attempt to overhaul the national health care system. No matter what your political orientation may be, all of our long term care insurance clients are pretty much agreed that something needs to be done.  What the proper recipe is the issue.  We have talked with doctors, nurses, industry personnel officers, lawyers, white collar and blue collar workers, the unemployed, retired folks, teachers, farmers and others—all of different racial , ethnic and religious orientations and a large portion are against any radical change.  Tort reform needs to be high on the list of foundations problems with the health care and long term care industry, but unfortunately the lawyer in Obama won’t touch it.
Many of these folks are confused and angry—as evidenced publicly by the impassioned reactions that many congressmen are now experiencing in their local town meetings with their constituents. Here in Georgia, Rep. Scott a held a town meeting with his constituents, trying to limit the discussion topics to him showing  his “people” all the wonderful things he had done for them in the way of getting Federal highway funds for their district. But his people wanted more than that—they wanted to talk about the pending health care overhaul now before Congress.  But Congressman Scott didn’t want to talk about it, and got quite angry with those who insisted—an unusual reaction for this usually quite mild-mannered man. He gave me the impression that he didn’t have enough information to discuss it intelligently, and the anger was simply a cover-up to deflect issues about his inadequacy in this regard. Could he be one of those congresspersons who will be voting on your healthcare issues but who has not even read and studied the 1000+ page omnibus health care bill now pending?  And a critical thing we’ve noticed about all this recent turmoil—almost all of the concerned folks are older working class people.
Here’s the bottom line on Long Term Care Insurance run by the government.  Don’t expect Congress and the current administration to do you any favors. Anything they might come up with will surely “water down” what is out there for you from the current private providers of Long Term Care Insurance and it will further continue to bankrupt our country. The best that could possibly come about from the federal government would be some sort of vague outline on Long Term Care that would then be turned over to the legions of federal bureaucrats to fill in the blanks in the coming years. This has been the modus operandi of the Congress in the past and seems to be the way they want to handle the current situation. This method, in effect, lets the bureaucrats become lawmakers and generally produces inferior results and services—at exceptionally high costs.
As our nation ages, much of our current success and progress is the result of those hard work and labor has gotten us to our current level.  These folks will need and deserve the best care available.   The Long Term Care Insurance being offered by many blue-chip insurance carriers is at this time and in the immediate future the best of all possible worlds. It’s just a matter of matching the best carrier to meet your needs.  LTC Tree stands ready to serve you so if you’d like to learn more about long term care insurance please fill in the form below.
