An article today in the Jordan Independant discussed the fact that State Rep. Marty Seifert Minnesota, the House Republican leader in the state, has set up a working group to talk about long-term care funding.
The group will be looking at alternatives to Medicaid for Minnesotans' as the population ages. There has been much outrage lately at the cottage industry of asset re-allocation, which can lead many people who would otherwise not qualify to be able to qualify for Medicaid. Minnesota, like many other states, is worried that this practice may lead to the failure of Medicaid to be able to pay all of its liabilities due to fraud.
Medicaid in Minnesota, like many other states, was setup strictly to assist the poor in getting basic medical coverage. The working group plans to look at alternatives such as Long-Term care insurance as well as reverse mortgages.
