Long Term Care Insurance companies that you want to avoid.
Clark Howard has been a proponent of Long Term Care Insurance for many years for certain financial situations.
If one lives long enough most seniors will need long term care at some point before they pass away. According to Clark Howard, "Most people should get long term care insurance when they reach their ‘50s. The only groups who don’t need LTC insurance are those who have very few assets or millions of dollars in wealth. That leaves about 80 percent of people who do." (ClarkHoward.com)
Clark Howard goes on to discuss The New York Times long term care insurance article where they published a story about the three long term care insurance companies you do not want to have backing you. The New York Times Long Term Care Insurance story states that Conseco which is the third largest writer of Long Term Care Insurance, has about 30 times the complaint rate of the industry leaders such as John Hancock and Genworth Financial. According to consumer complaints from around the country,
Conseco repeatedly did not pay legitimate claims and don't be fooled by this wolf in sheep's clothing because Banker’s Life & Casualty is owned by Conseco and they received the second most consumer complaints. Another company the New York Times mentioned in the article is Penn Treaty Network American. The NYT said that Penn Treaty had 9 times as many complaints as the industry leaders. Penn Treaty is a company we have used in the past ONLY when the client has had or has big health issues such as Cancer, or uncontrolled Diabetes.
PT does pay their claims from our experience; they however have increased rates consumers in the past. To their defense, Penn Treaty is a company most agents turn to only as a last resort because they will agree to insure higher health risk clients that the elite Long Term Care Insurance companies won't touch with a 20 foot pole.
At LTCtree.com we work with most all the carriers and ONLY use Penn Treaty as a last resort when people can't qualify because of health problems. If you'd like to get some quotes to begin to get an idea if Long Term Care Insurance is right for you please fill out the form below and we will get you quotes from the elite carriers such as MetLife, John Hancock, Genworth Financial, and Allianz.
