Long term care insurance in action

Long term care insurance in action

Ok, what happens if I ever ever have to use my long term care insurance policy?  The short answer is, it depends on which company you bought it from.  In the long term care insurance industry you have blue-chip carriers and bottom feeders.  The blue-chip carriers are going to be the brand name companies that you grew up knowing and will almost always treat you fairly because if they made a habit of not paying legitimate claims you would not of grown up knowing them.  That brings me to the bottom feeder long term care insurance carriers.  These companies make it a habit of dodging you when claim time comes but to convince you to buy from a small company you've never heard of initially, will offer these super low rates to start when compared with the blue-chips.  They then will jack-up your rates soon after you are already on board and its harder to switch.

Assuming you buy from a blue-chip company such as Allainz Life, John Hancock, MetLife, Prudential, etc. you'll find the claim process to be professional and fair most all the time.  Once you and your doctor decide you will need long term care, you file the claim with your long term care insurance company and most carriers will send an planning aid to your home to assist with the paperwork and help you find a home health care agency or nursing home in your area with a good reputation.  Since these companies have paid thousands of claims they tend to have a good sense on what a good nursing home is and which ones to watch out for so do use them as a tool when researching what facility to move into.

Once the claim has been submitted and approved the long term care insurance companies will make it easy on you by giving you the choice to pay the facility directly so you don't have to worry about writing checks and bills or of course they can reimburse you if you choose.  If you file a claim from an accident or condition you can recover from the insurance companies will help you along with your doctor do what it takes to get off claim and begin resuming a normal life.

At LTC tree we are independent brokers and our loyalty is to our clients, not the insurance companies.  When an insurance company is bad we can say so and will refuse to sell their products to our clients.  Conversely, if a blue-chip long term care insurance company treats people well we will give the praise.  Thanks for reading our bog, we really appreciate it.  If you'd like long term care insurance quotes fill out the form below and we'll mail them out.
