GPS shoes that track lost dementia patients

GPS shoes that track lost dementia patients

CNN recently reported on a company out of London that has developed a product to track Alzheimer’s patients via GPS online when they become lost.  This cutting edge thinking will saves lives and millions of dollars that local governments spend on search and rescue missions.  More than 26-million people world-wide have Alzheimer’s and by 2050 it is expected to grow to 106-million.

"This could not only save lives but potentially save governments billions in search and rescue operations," Andrew Carle, a professor at George Mason University who was an adviser for the project, told CNN.

Over 60 percent of people with Alzheimer’s will get lost at least once so having these safety devices will be a helpful tool for people with this form of dementia.  Most long term care insurance policies sold today they have a provision that will pay for medical alert devices along with other safety devices, I anticipate that once these GPS tracking shoes become available that they probably will be covered in most plans.  As electronic devices and the internet become one in the same, these types of devices will become available which have the power to save lives.
